Future Food Forests is an initiative in Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland that promotes a thriving wellbeing economy, nourished by local, healthy and sustainable food systems. It's a collaboration between One Westport members Edible Landscape Project and Westport Tidy Towns and the LEVERS project based in the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin.

On November 9th, 2024, as part of Science Week Ireland, join us in Westport to hear more about how to get involved in Future Food Forests through a series of three exciting free events called RE-GENERATION: Sustainable Food for the Ages, which highlight the importance of intergenerational learning and sharing in cultivating a sustainable food system for the future.

Baking in Sustainability
A unique event with limited spaces, this is an opportunity to learn the art of baking traditional soda bread as well as the science of sustainable food production. Junior bakers (under-18) welcome - each child must be accompanied by one adult.
Leave with inspiration, knowledge and your very own scones!

10am - 12pm, Clew Bay Hotel
Free - but booking essential, €5 refundable deposit

Cultivating Conscious Consumption
What if vegetarianism wasn't the only path to sustainable eating? Reimagine conscious consumption at this unique (non-vegetarian) dining event with gastronomic artist Rudilee McCarthy. Joined in conversation by low-carbon agriculture expert Prof. Tommy Boland (UCD), the food for thought along with your meal will be an exploration of how Ireland's farming and culinary traditions can inspire a more sustainable future.
1pm - 3pm , Clew Bay Hotel
Free - but booking essential, €10 refundable deposit

Apples in Winter: Braiding Science, Culture, and Community is a family-friendly drop-in event featuring interactive hands-on activities related to sustainable food production, biodiversity and the bioeconomy. Get practical tips for climate action at home, in the supermarket or in your green spaces, while enjoying traditional music and storytelling, showcasing the importance of cultural heritage and the arts in shaping a greener future.
4pm - 6.30pm, Westport Leisure Park
Free - no booking required
