Be A Marine Biologist for a Day: Woman in a whale costume speaks to five young children

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) offers an engaging series of events titled 'Be a Marine Biologist', as part of Science Week this year, inviting both children and adults to explore cetaceans (whales, dolphins and porpoises) research. With a focus on this year's theme of 'Regeneration', the workshops and science talks aim to inspire conservation efforts for these magnificent creatures.

For children, the 'Be a Marine Biologist for a Day' workshop offers an interactive experience at the Shannon Dolphin Centre in Kilrush, Co Clare. Children aged 9 to 12 will learn about marine mammals, responsible fishing practices, and human impact on marine ecosystems through activities such as 'Fishing Experiment' and 'Whale Jenga'.

The 'Can we speak whales?' series for adults offers online webinars as well as in-person talks at the Cultúrlann Sweeney library and theatre in Kilkee, Co. Clare. Participants will gain insight from STEM experts on topics such as acoustics, photo-ID, policy and conservation, and citizen science. At the end of the final in-person talk, experts and IWDG officers will participate in a panel discussion and Q&A session. Join us during Science Week to learn more about cetaceans research and contribute to their conservation and regeneration.
