Blockchain-Enabled Digital Building Logbooks for Sustainable Communities
Blockchain-enabled Digital Building Logbooks for Informed Energy Retrofitting and Sustainable Infrastructure in Ireland
In Brief
- Challenge: Sustainable Communities Challenge
- Challenge Type: National Challenge Fund
- Status: Active
The Challenge
Information about the buildings that surround us is stored in logbooks. Conventional building logbooks can’t facilitate energy efficiency improvements and the proper renovation needed due to lack of accurate static and dynamic building lifetime data. The challenge is the transformation of traditional manual building logbooks into a technologically advanced Blockchain-enabled Digital Building Logbook in Ireland. Addressing this challenge is crucial for achieving a sustainable and resilient built environment, aligning with Ireland's climate goals. It can significantly enhance building performance, reduce energy consumption, and facilitate the transition towards a circular economy, ultimately fostering sustainable communities and infrastructure.
The Solution
BLOCKCHAINED presents an innovative solution to the challenge by creating dynamic and interoperable repositories for comprehensive building life cycle data storage. Through a unique integration of Internet of Things (IoT), smart sensors, cloud computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, building information modelling (BIM), and sustainable blockchain solutions, BLOCKCHAINED will revolutionize information gathering, processing, analysis, and decision-making for a versatile Digital Building Logbook (DBL) in Ireland. This multifaceted approach will overcome existing barriers by facilitating data access to concerned parties, interoperability between different systems, and informed decision support for the end users.
