The Challenge

Unsustainable road transport in Ireland is a pressing issue, impacting communities, the environment, and overall quality of life. With increasing traffic congestion, pollution, and inequality, there is a critical need to find alternative and sustainable transport. The lack of cyclist-friendly infrastructure and the limited promotion of cycling and walking further exacerbate the problem. By creating Ireland's first cycling neighborhood, the aim is to transform transportation patterns, reduce carbon emissions, and improve air quality. The project's success would foster sustainable communities, improve public health, and set a model for other cities to adopt similar eco-friendly mobility initiatives. 

The Solution

BikeHood proposes to create Ireland's first cycling neighborhood. It aims to transform communities by promoting cycling and walking while enhancing infrastructure to tackle traffic congestion, pollution, and inequality. Our novel approach integrates key principles, advanced technologies like smart mobility solutions, real-time data collection, and the use of digital twin technology for efficient experimentation and optimisation. By actively engaging stakeholders and employing a community-centric approach, BikeHood seeks to overcome current barriers to cycling adoption, such as inadequate infrastructure and the lack of incentives for sustainable transport.
